Ricardo Gonzalez – Typography

Written by Nerissa Staggers

“It’s a living is a design initiative where creativity & passion is a life style. That’s why it’s a living.” – Ricardo Gonzalez

Typography is more than just choosing the font for letters and characters in a message. It involves the technique of letter spacing, arranging type sizes, selecting colors, and designing typefaces. Whether it’s designing a logo, book cover, packaging materials, or any form of advertising, the treatment of typography is a reflection of a brand. It’s a visually pleasing way of arranging fonts, creating a readable language, and giving context to a message. It’s an art form. For Featured Artist, Ricardo Gonzalez, it’s also a living.

Ricardo Gonzalez is a graphic designer focused on lettering, typography, calligraphy, and typeface design. Brooklyn based, Mexico born, and Canada bred, Ricardo’s style has influences from around the world. At his company, It’s a Living, he creates designs for major brands including Revlon and Lululemon, and also caters to small companies and brands. Although he explores different styles of typography, Ricardo seems to have a signature style of lettering that involves hand-drawn calligraphic fonts.
